Welcome to Ihaddhoo School

Ihaddhoo School is a newly built Primary School in L. Gan. The project was funded by the French Red Cross under the Tsunami Recovery and Reconstruction Programs after the devastating Tsunami in 2004.

L. Gan Thundi School, L. Gan Mathimaradhoo School and L. Kalhaidhoo School were closed down on 31st December 2009 and transferred their students and staff to the single-session Ihaddhoo School, which was registered on 03rd January 2010, by the Ministry of Education to provide a better quality cost effective public education.


The school commenced its service on 10th January 2010 under the leadership of its very first Principal Mr. Ahmed Xahir, Oscar/L. Gan. He was deputized by the previous Thundi School Principal Mr. Mohamed Khaleel and previous Head of L. Kalhaidhoo School Mr. Moosa Rasheed and previous Head of L. Gan Mathimaradhoo School Mr. Abdulla Shakir were appointed as Leading Teachers.

The initial intake on 10th January 2010 was 271 consisting of 145 girls and 126 boys. But the student population grew very faster giving a total of 302 (159 girls and 143 boys) by 30th June 2010. Current enrollment is 319, consisting of 168 girls and 151 boys. It resulted in a current student teacher ratio of 11:1.

The school delivers the national curriculum aimed at developing the Mind, Spirit and Body of the students and teaches Quran, Islam, Dhivehi, English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Physical Education, Practical Arts and Computing for primary students. Middle School students study Quran, Islam, Dhivehi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Practical Arts and Computing.

The school has a systematic arrangement for student leadership and co-curricular activities. Students themselves run the Prefect Board, the Student Association and its affiliated clubs with the facilitation from teachers. The clubs of the school include;

  • Islam Club aimed at promoting spirituality,
  • Nature Club aimed at environmental awareness,
  • Health Club aimed at promoting health awareness,
  • Dhivehi Literary Association (DLA) aimed at promoting Dhivehi Language,
  • English Literary Association (ELA) aimed at promoting English Language,
  • Sports Club aimed at promoting physical fitness,
  • Culture Club aimed at promoting nationalism and cultural awareness.

The school is committed to a high level of excellence in all its activities. It has secured confidence from stakeholders for its quality services and has established a devoted workforce through unity of direction and teamwork.
